The BOT has canceled 2 athletic programs at church schools recently. Many people think this is a real possibility at BYU as well. The vision for BYU athletics is anything but "readily apparent."
For a guy who is NOT "telling people to write checks," you say pony up more money a lot. I'm simply articulating that there are legitimate concerns as we " open our wallets" right now given the (lack of) direction in the program. I don't find you're doing a very good job of connecting the "pay up" and "make it happen" parts of your contention.
You can call asking the church to kick in "tired" or lame or whatever, but when lack of money is a problem, it's sort of natural to ask about tapping into relevant revenue channels, particularly when those channels do things like build freaking nice shopping malls, etc..
We keep hiring head coaches who have not head coached, coordinators who have never coordinated, as well as position coaches who have never coached at all. Money is absolutely part of the issue here.
Other "solutions?" I've spewed more than my fair share of hot air on this topic.
In a nutshell--Lavell era relative funding and honor code plus transparency from leadership.
And
Leave BYU-approved housing standards in place around Provo. Eviction becomes the predominant punishment for moral offenses over suspension
Drop LDS-religion course requirements for non-LDS students.
Etc.
