Do you really think that BYU football spending gobs of cash to win 2-3 more games a year (on average over past 5 years) is the best investment to be made with all those funds? Considering the staggering amount of REAL need in the world? I personally don't think my enjoyment of 5 hours 12 Saturdays a year + bragging rights over my obnoxious neighbor is an equal ROI.
However, I do agree that it just might be worth a few more Benjamins each year out of my pocket.
It's not about the size of your fanbase. It's about the willingness of that fanbase to donate $$$.
