Let's look at football closer
I understand BYU has a rich history. But consider the following:

The last time BYU was ranked in the top 10? 15 years go
The last time BYU was ranked in the top 4? Almost 30 years ago
In the last 20 years, BYU has 1 Top 10 finish and I think they won their 7th bowl game this year during that span (Utah has 11)
They had a total of 3 conference titles in their last 10 years of conference affiliation (Utah also has 3)
I don't have the time to look up the numbers, but Utah has produced far more NFL talent than BYU over the last 10 years as well

You say that objectively it's not close, but what has BYU accomplished in the last 10-20 years that causes you to make that claim? If you go back 20, you could start throwing out conference championships, but that's about the only edge they have over Utah in that span. Utah is 7-3 in the last 10, 13-7 in the last 20 head-to-head, and has finished in the Top 10 3 times in the last 20 years. Busting the BCS twice was obviously the crown jewel and came at just the right time.

I am not sitting here and claiming Utah's superiority. But to sit there and say that objectively it is not that close in BYU's favor is simply incorrect. BYU has a rich tradition, but they haven't made a mark on the big stage in a long time.
