I grew up out of state, so my only associations with Utah fans were on TV (my dad went to Utah, but was a solid BYU football fan through the 80's-90's). After getting married, I spent some time with my wife's extended family who are, with a few exceptions, Utah or Utah State fans. I recall one Sunday dinner after the 2012 Utah game when my wife's obnoxious cousin kept wanting to show me memes of JD Falslev while her aunts and uncles went on and on about how horrible BYU is for the state.

Before that day, I hated Utah because of some bitter losses (2003 game was one of the worst days of my life), but that day in 2012 changed the rivalry for me. Later interactions solidified things.

Thankfully I'm back out of state so again my Utah interactions are with people I don't know. I like my local interactions with Big 12 schools a lot more than with my Utah family relations.
