Another one my son just reminded me about:
My youngest is in 4th grade now. At the beginning of this school year, a boy he was friends with in the first grade and had hung out with during the second grade, told him that they could no longer be friends because my son roots for BYU. My son is pretty popular/athletic and has a ton of friends, so he shrugged it off and told this kid that it was his choice and not my son's decision. He then said something that makes me think my ten year old is a better person than I am - he told this other kid that "I hope you grow up and I'm sorry for you because you must really be hurting inside to say that."

My son has been fine. Like I said, he has lots of friends and isn't hurting because of this former friend. Now it's getting to the end of the school year and I heard from my son's teacher (unsolicited) that this Ute kid has really struggled this year and has been very disruptive in class and has been in trouble a lot. It made me think back to the start of the school year and I'm still in awe that my 4th grader would be so perceptive.

True story.
