Well - following recruiting may not be the best thing anyway.
And honestly, even though that's pretty much what the kids words implied - I could really care less. I have never followed recruiting much because too many highly regarded recruits never pan out. And not just at BYU, but at all schools.

I was more interested in the theological discussion. So let me just say this. I heard a talk once that discussed Satan's plan, and it talked about our freedom of choice in the preexistence. To sin requires knowledge and free agency. And we were free to follow Satan if we chose or God if we chose. That is the reason Satan's plan could never work in any event. Gods plan was based on our freedom of choice. Satan wasn't asked to present a plan - he came up with his ideas all on his own and demanded that God do what he wanted. And when denied, he threw a tantrum with eternal consequences.

Amazingly, 1/3 of the hosts of heaven chose to follow Satan - despite the fact that we were actually living with God. Satan, Jesus and everyone was in the same premortal state, and Satan chose to exhibit anger, arrogance, envy, jealousy, covetousness and who knows how many other sinful emotions and thoughts. And we were free to have those same thoughts and feelings. So yes - Satan wanted us to "break the honor code" and live with him in sin - and he is still fighting that same battle. When Adam and Eve came to earth the veil was drawn and they became "innocent" and thus could not sin. But before that - they had full knowledge of their actions and full ability to chose to rebel against God if they so chose.

Satan's plan has not changed - and there are many facets to the plan. But they all involve free agency.

This section from Jesus The Christ is very informative.

And these talks by Elder Hales gives some great insight. Namely that God presented the plan and Satan basically said "I have a better plan".
