I represent the church (it's part of my baptismal covenants). There are also
all kinds of other "tells" about me that lead people to ask me if I'm mormon. I don't have any additional obligations as a result of these other things that link me to the church and often lead to people asking me about my religious ties.
Look, it's perfectly reasonable for a very devout member to say they don't want to go to BYU because they don't like the honor code's over-the-top restrictions, or the environment that the honor code creates. I know countless very devout members whose decisions not to attend BYU were impacted by this very issue, and these are people who would be very happy to pay for their mistakes (although none of them planned to make the egregious mistakes that many in this thread are assuming Kirby plans to make).
