Someone's race should have nothing to do with acceptance to college and beyond. I remember when I was applying to medical school and they have different admissions tables showing what scores (MCAT + GPA) were accepted to schools based on their race. It's almost embarrassing how low of a score you can have as a black or Native person and get into school. Race should be completely taken out of the equation and if someone has a story of a challenging upbringing, that can be found somewhere else in the application. It's not as if only black people can have a challenging upbringing where school can't be their top priority.
I think my thoughts are more in line with MLK Jr's I Have a Dream speech when he said "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." We keep letting people judge others by the colour of their skin more than the content of their character.
