an applicant who happens to be minority came from bad circumstances. You have no idea. And frankly, most who support AA don't really care. otherwise you would not accept race as the critical criterion. You would just look at the factors for which you use race as a proxy.

I like that the church is concerned about minority groups. But going after race the same way the left has for 50 years s not working. Discriminating applicants is a bad idea. That doesn't mean that things should not be done to help, but I think the old school way of looking at race doesn't work. Maybe totally revamping the welfare state would be a start.
