If you want to introduce BYU admissions to a hundred Tongan friends of yours
who have the academic background to succeed at BYU, I guarantee you they will have a better shot at getting in than my kids. BYU would love to increase its minority numbers. It would have scholarships available.

BYU is a brutal place right now, academically. I know a girl with a 33 ACT and a 3.8 freshman GPA at BYU. She can't get into the nursing program, which has an average GPA of 3.9. You don't send a kid to BYU today unless they are top tier academically and can handle a very very tough academic environment. It would be great to increase the poly population at BYU, but you need to make sure they are the kids who succeeded academically in high school at the highest levels, just like the rest of their BYU peers. If they did not, you would be better off sending them to a school where they can show their metal before tackling BYU.
