He got mocked because that always gave the impression he was running a business,

and not a trying to compete with other programs who were always making changes to get ahead. It seemed like every new thing Bronco tried was off the field leadership stuff. Which is obviously necessary, but the competition was doing better on the field stuff and recruiting (TCU, Utah). No ammount of business or management technique could have beaten Utah during this last losing streak in the rivalry.
