... let's not get caught up in believing that a cultural identity = Bronco's culture and approach. You can establish a successful, winning culture from a different personality base and game philosophy. I thought that Kilani and co. would do just that when they arrived.
Our 'off the field' identity is pretty much set in stone at BYU - and Bronco was masterful (albeit maybe over the top) at identifying that for the players and translating it to the mission of the football program. As for our 'on the field' identity, Bronco was known for an aggressive, disruptive defense. Offensively, we wandered a bit, but in the end, the good Doctor had embraced a GFGH approach and the identity (and fan expectations) were set.
The only thing I've seen in the past two years that started to define an identity was the 'knock them down, then help them up' approach to defense we were taking last year (which seems to fit well with who BYU is / should be). But we seem to have lost that this year. Scheme-wise on either side of the ball, I haven't figured out who we are.
Lack of definable culture = lack of leadership.
