Yes, Bronco won with Crowton's players, the point being discussed was the myth
that he had great recruiting classes. Crowton's classes were as follows:

2002 2.65* w/o Walt Williams, his best class. rated 99 but that's not really accurate as there were only 18 commits, would have been
better with a full class.

2003 doesn't show up in top 100

2004 2.29*, 79th class

2005 2.3, 63rd rated class.

There were some good players in those classes but their success came under the culture established by the next staff. Bronco's teams averaged top 40 finishes the 6 years after Crowton's players were all gone. It's apparent by Kalani's classes that with the new academic and honor code standards in place after Crowton left (addressed perfectly in today's article by Kragthorpe), our recruiting ceiling is probably 60th ranked classes. The question is what can we do with those classes? Average 39th and appear competitive against the tough part of our schedule, or look like a mid tier FCS team as we do now.

Kurtz and Blackmon may be the exception, but they were here. You don't find a solid contributor without trying. This staff misjudged or mismanaged this talent, and there was certainly enough to beat the sub 100 teams on the schedule. There would be much less distress around this season had we beat the sub 100 teams and not missed a bowl for the first time in 12 years.

Fieler did start all of the games but Boise, he was listed twice in the 2 deep, never saw him as a starter. That point is irrelevant, he is a 3* player, just like 16 of Virginia's 20 recruits in this class. Kiser is also. Peace is a 2*. You didn't dispute the fact that Virginia starters average 2.8 stars and Bronco has recruited at the same clip, with the 2 win season as the basis for most of the commits. It will only improve. So the line about talent falling off after this season is false as the incoming players have star ratings that = current players.

Stalker, Blanding and Brown are the only 4* or better players on the 2 deep. You can say over and over that London's classes were great and Bronco is winning only because of that, but repeating the same thing will not change the numbers. It would be closer to the truth to say that Bronco's recruiting to fill the massive holes left by London (Both lines for example) will cause them to win more with his 2.8* rated classes than with the previous 2.8* rated players. The culture change so obvious to everyone watching and a deeper roster that know his schemes will improve the win total, not decrease it. The qb position next year is a concern, but he is addressing it, one Grad transfer from Texas and possibly the Qb from the #1 JC team in the nation. Yes, JC or grad transfer quarterbacks are out there, Bronco didn't go after them while at BYU as he had Beck, Hall, 5* Heaps, Elite 11 and current NFL players in Mangum and Hill on the rosters.

It appears to me that regardless of talent, Kalani is going to struggle. This is a complete wreck, he does not have the management skills to handle players or coaches, is more awkward in public appearances now than Bronco was. He has been wise to keep the sunglasses on to hide his blinking. His big strength was recruiting and the majority of his 2018 class are 2* players. If he can't recruit, the future is very grim as he can't manage, lead, motivate or even unite.

This whole thread was about culture comparing Bronco to Kalani. With the mentioned academic and honor code standards, we will never have a team that averages 9 wins again. Virginia will have at least 2 more wins this year than BYU despite their schedule being 30 spots tougher. They are doing things that haven't been done in years, despite the talent advantage London had. The cultural transformation by both teams is so obvious. Every excuse can be made for the mess that is BYU football, the guys looking to blame everything but the coaches are appearing silly and fading fast.

Virginia will have higher average ranked teams for the tenure of their current staffs. Please bookmark this, I would love to be wrong. I've been sick to my stomach this entire season as BYU football is everything to me this time of year.
