RE: Yes, Bronco won with Crowton's players, the point being discussed was the
“Only 10 BYU players were taken in the past 12 NFL drafts (11 if you count the supplemental draft); there were 29 drafted the previous 12 years before that. Currently, there are nine BYU players on active rosters in the NFL. In 2005, there were 24.“

Bronco clearly didn’t keep the pipeline stocked with sufficient talent and set Kalani up for failure. He didn’t leave the program in as good of shape talent-wise as it was when he took over. He pretty much drove it until the gas tank was nearly on E then handed the keys to the next guy to run out of gas before he could refill the tank.

You’re condemning Kalani for problems Bronco stuck him with and aren’t willing to give him time to fix the problem. The problem of not having enough talent has been further exacerbated by the number of injuries (13 starters lost and 25 total from the 2 deep). That’s a tall order for any coach to overcome, let alone a brand new one. With nearly 80% of each recruiting class going on 2 yr missions BEFORE coming to BYU, and then many of the RM’s need a year just to get back in football shape it takes generally 3 yrs before a full recruiting class hits the field for their freshman year. Then they need experience which takes more years on top of that.

Last year this staff coached the team to a 9 win season and were just 8 points away from being undefeated. Now all of a sudden they cant remember how to coach and created this alternately terrible culture (seemingly overnight?) and that happened over the course of a spring and summer? That’s not very logical and seems really far fetched. What is logical is that Bronco wasn’t a very good recruiter, brought in some poor classes his last few years and then ran out leaving another guy to clean up the mess.
