What about music, theater, student government...all don't add to the well being and rounding out students?
Sports are invaluable. My son attends a top private school (acceptance is sub-9% and highly academic (focus), household names attended the school, politicians, professional athletes, billionaires etc etc). I have met with the Headmaster many times, including when they recruited in my son. He mentioned that sports are a backbone to the school, there becomes a pride, unifies the students. They require students to play 3 sports at school, even if you are at a lower level because they are vital to the well being, development and advancement of students.
I did not quiz him for metrics and data. This seems so obvious that all resources should not just be directed to learning.
