in my view, is a classic example of why you do not want parents coaching on the HS basketball bench. This parent/AC seems like a very intense and emotional guy and it was evident in his actions and demeanor on the bench. He seemed to be more of Dad than a coach and I am not sure the head coach had the ability to reign him in emotionally, if that was/is his desire. It was verbalized to me that others involved in the program shared similar concerns to mine about the parent/AC.
His boys are good athletes, strong basketball players and were two of the top players on the team. They play a physical brand of bball that you have to be ready for mentally and be able to match without letting your emotions get in the way. That style of ball was needed for that team though, as they really did not have enough good players to be successful another way.
As far as other players capabilities to play PG, I am aware of one player on the team who could have successfully run the point, but may not as been as strong physically as the starting PG. Not sure if the team would have been more successful with that player running the point v. the ACs son. Basketball is getting more positionless by the year but that varies alot on HS teams and in HS coaches systems.
