When I graduated, Obama was the commencement speaker. It was right after he had
been elected the first time.

All of the PhD graduates got to shake his hand and get our picture taken with him as we walked across the stage.

Naturally, like everyone else, I got that picture framed along with my diploma. I’m not a democrat; it’s just cool to shake a president’s hand.

Anyway, at my first job after graduation at a university in a traditionally “red” state, I put up that picture in my office. It took less than an hour for someone to tell me to “take down that picture of the enemy”. They were only half joking. After a few more angry stares from various people, I took it down.

I’ve had that picture up in my BYU office for 6 years with no complaints and plenty of compliments
