I actually contracted some work there about 4-5 years ago and the person I dealt with was Wendy Bills who was the only faculty member left at the school from when I was there. Wendy coached volleyball when I was there, I graduated in 1985.
I talked to her a little bit about the school and how it had changed in the 30 years since I was there and she said the biggest difference was the demographics. I was a Grandview kid and of course back then Oak Hills was part of the PHS boundary but she mentioned how Oak Hills had been taken out and put in the Timpview boundary back in the 90's and that had hurt the athletics overall but that basketball had stayed pretty strong up until the previous couple of years.
She also said that the demographics of the school were now 50% Hispanic and that made a very big difference to the athletics, especially basketball and football where the average height and size of those kids was not big enough plus most of them tended to play soccer anyway.
I'm hoping that the new location, and the west side growth in Provo, helps to bring a little bit of a resurgence but I doubt it will ever be what it was back in the 70's and 80's when it was maybe the premier athletic school in the state. We sure dominated athletics my years there.
