Sure, they sent some recruiting/marketing materials and invited her to campus...but didn't give much effort. The coach and team gave her like 5 minutes when she visited campus. She was also eligible for a significant academic scholarship...so, they basically assumed she would come to BYU on the academic scholarship and run for BYU.
Meanwhile, other schools all over the country rolled out the red carpet and persistently contacted and wooed her. She ended up choosing Arkansas (#1 in the nation at the time), who gave her a full-ride+ scholarship. She did eventually transfer to BYU and ran for x-country and track teams...but the primary catalyst for the transfer was the more attractive Latter-day Saint-oriented education and experience....while holding her nose for the distance-running program.
