I doubt people understand how much D1 athletes devote to their sport. They
basically sacrifice most social life and must cram time together to study. It's a huge commitment so being valued is important. We fans underestimate the amount of time and resources devoted.
Other than for club, being a D1 athlete, marginal as I would have been, wasn't worth the effort for me, but I applaud those who do so. A little money along the way is important to soften the burden.
