Here was the reality in 2002 (I can only assume it’s similar now)
Smart BYU grads are very similar. Their resumes look the same. Good GPA, good MCAT, similar upbringing, mission.

Utah gets flooded with applications by these types. They have to decide whether what percent of each class will come from this pool. In my class, it was maybe 12-15 guys.

That means that well qualified applicants will be rejected. I personally don’t think it’s a bias against BYU. They just don’t want a massive percentage of their class all coming from the same place. So they pick the best 12-15.

It’s been that way for a long time and will likely remain that way.
