On the other hand I know a bunch of BYU students who have gone there. Unfortunately when you have a bunch of white males, from Utah or Utah ties (BYU, Utah State etc) they all look similar for a few spots. You would be much better off being a from somewhere else.
There is some anti bias, but not a huge deal getting into med school. Additionally, what I have heard is they don't like all the extras being "service" (ie missions) as every LDS applicant has this, so they want added service. They have a lot of this, so good to focus on other service.
It was mentioned getting into top schools but not the U. Not a massive surprise. A BYU grad, with mission "service", foreign living experience, great grades is MUCH more unique at school XYZ on the east coast than in SLC Utah.
I have dissected college admissions as some boards I am on, and board members at top schools I know. There are certain criteria that matter (as in wher you live).
