The two interviews on the main interview day seemed to go well, but apparently they only rarely call back someone for a “tie-breaker”‘interview when one of the interviewers thought you were amazing and the other thought you were an absolute “no way.”
Funny thing was, I was a very strong applicant (rated a 5 out of 5 by Bloxham/BYU’s pre-Med program office) and was just applying to the U as a “safety value” option.
I got into over a dozen Med schools, nearly all of them higher ranked that Utah, including UC schools, UT schools, Albert Einstein, UAB, Mt Sinai, etc…
The third interview went well and I got into Utah’s MD/PhD program. Looking back, I was too naive to realize that one of the interviewers was trying to bait me with religious gotcha questions.
Ended up accepting the MSTP
position at UAB due to liking the place and all the stipend money. But I might have been the only person who ended up with a competitive/coveted MSTP position who nearly got rejected from Utah.
Anyways, it sure felt good to reject that acceptance from Utah.
