Only at BYU does a guy with his record still have a job. When he took over, BYU was an athletic power with momentum. BYU was by far the states best program, with the best facilities, largest fanbase, etc. Fast forward 15 years and BYU is a distant second, and at risk for being passed by USU. The fanbase is contracting, facilities are aging, there is no energy or optimism. He botched Big 12 negotiations. Twice. Just a horrific tenure. The guy could write a book on how to run a once proud organization into the ground.
