So many of the points you rightfully make correlate with independence though...

And the move to independence (and the WCC) was a major step up in terms of scheduling and the caliber of opponents we play. Why do we so often forget this? The first few years of independence were exciting, there was enthusiasm, but the schedule was still quite MWC-esque. Perhaps no one but TH could have anticipated the growing pains that we would then be subjected to after the honeymoon phase of independence wore off. And these past few years have definitely been defined by growing pains. But I am an optimist and think BYU will come out stronger than pre-independence. What the next years will look like, no one knows, but I think our athletic programs are universally maturing, growing, and making strides towards being greater than they ever were when we were in the MWC. I don't mean to sound like a TH apologist, and I can't imagine what a thankless job he has sometimes; but I do respect him for the guts he had to take us into independence and into a new era of growth. Just look at the FB schedule this year. We are now running with the big boys. We are in good company and who can deny that? I suspect within the next 5-10 years we will be dominant again, but at a much more prestigious level (p5 invite or not). Thank you, TH, for giving us mountains to climb.
