with Jimmermania and 11 win seasons in football every other year. We all thought Holmoe was amazing.
But now he’s an idiot? Wake up. He didn’t change. What did then?
Answer: Our conference. No question we’d be winning more if we were still playing Mountain West teams. We went from 2 P5 games a year to 4-6 P5 games a year. Look who we played in the MWC! A bunch of pathetic cupcakes for at least 7-9 games/year. Cmon, no wonder we won a lot.
Comparing then and now is not even rational. It’s comparing apples and oranges.
Schedule is more difficult = less winning = worse recruiting = even less winning. This is a no brainer. I have no idea why people reject this; it’s insane.
Teams don’t recruit well because they play great teams. Period. What if you lose to all of them? You won’t recruit well. Winning (even against cupcakes) is more important (for recruiting and rankings) than playing great teams.
Boise is experiencing what we should be: 9-11 wins each year against MWC cupcakes and they end up ranked most every year. Boise is the new BYU. We abandoned our formula.
We chose independence which means:
1) More money.
2) Better competition. Leads to...
3) Less winning. 7-9 wins instead of 9-11. Leads to...
4) No ranking, less respect. Leads to...
5) Worse recruiting.
4) No conference championships
