There is an untold cost
1) Mnay kids with talent who are late bloomers but whose parents don’t have the means or desire to give their lives to sports get left behind.
2) Many times it is more about the parents than what the kids want
3) This is anecdotal from my ortho but over specialization from a young age seems to cause more orthopedic injuries
4) There are a lot of reasons besides time and money not to give that much control of your kids lives to other things- not just sports. I personally know of two kids who lives were completely ruined by abuse by coaches when the coaches became the defacto controlling adult because they spent more time with the kids than the parent did- Arrested put in jail abuse- one male, one female player - different sports and different coaches and they were geographically not in close proximity.

No thank you.

We had one of our kids repeatedly recruited by a local coach to run track and play soccer for him on a traveling team. She said no based on the Sabbath issue, he “creeped” her out, and wanting to play with her friends in a rec league. Years later he is in the news for sexually abusing players over many many years

Granted, it wasn’t as big a deal when they
were young and my kids have all gravitated to life sports like skiing and mountain biking but I am happy on this end they didn’t go the club route.
