My 11 year old son is on a traveling basketball team. He played for another
TL;DR our kids are having different experiences with travel and rec league sports. It’s hard to do it all. Sorry if it sounds like bragging. I’m really just starting to learn how navigate it all.

Local team before. His local team was good and would whip up on local teams. My issue with it was they were not willing to go do tournaments whether here locally or around the state.

This new team has better coaches and he has developed better. These two teams play each other and his new team will beat them 40-20.

The crazy thing is when we go play in bigger towns we will get drilled 50-30. There are kids that can shoot the three as well as the warriors and know how to space the floor better than many high school teams.

I would rather play these teams than play local Rex where we beat them 60-6 with the exception of his old team.

My younger son is on a red league after having a really good coach for a few years. Some of these kids have never touched a ball. The coaching isn’t as good and he has to teach how to dribble a ball. My 8 year old understands help defense, flashing on screens, scanning the floor in transition to make a better pass. He is bored out of his mind on this team. We will just make the best of it and figure something out later. They are only 8 so it isn’t a big deal right now. I actually think my younger son is more talented than my older son.

My older son has been invited to play on a travel baseball team, and they are trying to create a travel spring tackle team to play throughout the Pacific Northwest and they want him. We love basketball and football but we are not a baseball family. There are too many things to do.

I want my kids to play multiple sports and play with different teams to get experience playing with different kids. There is value to developing with travel teams but it can suck up so much time. I coach tackle football for my older son and we agreed to baseball because one of my assistant coaches loves baseball and a bunch of our team also plays baseball. I wouldn’t know how to coach baseball and really dont have much internet in it.
