I believe this same thing happens n basketball and girls soccer as well.

From kids I know and relatives, basketball and girls soccer require the same level of commitment and the college coaches want the travel ball coaches info. A relative of mine who was a D1 player told me they care more about the club team soccer than the highschool because the competition is better.
