student ID card. I am absolutely a student at the U. Seriously, where do you live, I'm gonna come over to your place and show you my card. I live in married student housing here at the U, it's not a long drive.
I am extremely loyal to BYU. I wouldn't eschew Utah academically (because hey, who else was offering me in-state tuition) but the fans make it hard to cheer for them. I was really excited about Utah when I first arrived. I remember when I first got into grad school I went and bought a Utah shirt. I took my very BYU family to the Oregon State game and we had a great time. I've had harder time since the Pac-12 invite. Now, the rhetoric among Utah fans has made me start to really hate the sports programs more, and that spills over somewhat into my academic pursuits.
But guess what. My argument isn't a strong one, because ANY argument for hating another group is a losing argument. Even when sports are involved. Trying to rationalize why you hate someone will always fail. When you do it, when I do it, when anybody else does it--it always fails. So "sophistry" is true up to a point. We use bigger and bigger words to justify hate, when it simply can't be justified.
Seriously, though, boardmail me. I'll give you a call and then run over my student ID card and we can look at my current registration online. I'm a nice guy. Most of the time.
