has nothing to do with fans. fans will be fans. It's the mentality of the program. You return a good team and suddenly you're an NC contender in August.
Face it, BYU put itself above other opponents and ended up getting crushed by nearly every decent team they played. That's the joke of "the quest". To run the table, you have to respect your opponents.
I think Hall's quote after the TCU game says it best. "We're weren't as good as we thought."
That's the entitlement that I find so annoying. And it really came up this past off-season with Utah's upgrade. Sure, there were off-the-field issues that hurt BYU, but the whining about "we're so much better than Utah that the only reason Utah could have ever been accepted was bigotry" wreaks of entitlement. It reflects poorly on the school and the faith.
BYU has a lot of unique strengths. It's a terrific program. But when you're arguably the 4th best non-AQ, you should focus more on becoming the best than whining about what others get.
