That wasn't the aim of the scheduling strategy
The strategy was to play 2 P5s (1 home, 1 road), a decent G5, and an automatic win. That being said, BYU has never had problems scheduling teams if they've really wanted to ramp things up, even as a non-P5 team.

One main difference is that P5 conferences consider independent BYU a P5 game, so it is easier to schedule us

Exactly my point. By moving to ANY G5, our ability to schedule meaningful P5 games is greatly reduced
