This is all run by football unfortunately. BBall is always going to take a
backseat to football. You simply don't risk destroying your football program so your basketball team can have a few better games.

One main difference is that P5 conferences consider independent BYU a P5 game, so it is easier to schedule us

Exactly my point. By moving to ANY G5, our ability to schedule meaningful P5 games is greatly reduced
