I worked for a consultant where this regularly happened. He treated people poorly, would terminate people for any reason. He was sort of an alpha type and would fire high performers. These former employees would then later recruit their former coworker friends - usually the best employees - to leave and work for the competition.
Happened to me.
That office had incredible turnover.
